What a month...

View More Together Photos

The boys are one month old today. It has been so much fun getting to know them and to notice their differences. Colin loves to eat and sleep - just like me! Jake is eating very well, but he is awake more than his brother. Colin is so peaceful and serene most of the time, while Jake is often squirming around and contorting his face. Jake always makes us laugh with his facial expressions. So far, they are exactly like they were in the womb - Jake moved around like crazy and Colin pretty much stayed put.

Both boys have amazing grips - each puts his hands around the bottle while being fed. If the bottle is positioned right, they can actually hold it up themselves. I didn't think babies this young could do that! They also both have pretty good neck control already. We were amazed to watch little Jake switch his head to the other side while lying on his stomach.

Needless to say, we love these little guys and are enjoying each day. Of course, we're also counting down the days until we may be able to sleep for more than a few hours at a time!

PS - About a week before the babies were born, I read in a Twins publication that the number of hours of work it takes to take care of twin infants is over 120 a week. There are 168 hours TOTAL in a week, so to say we're busy these days is an understatement. ;)

Let's not forget about Scout

More Photos

Scout has been a perfect dog through these first crazy four weeks. But let's face it, he was used to a certain, shall we say, pampered lifestyle.

Our salvation has been a combination of Peter's morning walks, his girlfriend Sky's visits (pictured with Scout here) and his buddy from the dog park Picasso. Without all of their help (and of course Sky's Mom and Picasso's Dad) he would be driving us up the wall by now.

Boys First Christmas

Colin and Jake got dressed up in their best Christmas garb and proceeded to sleep through the entire day! I guess you could call that their first Christmas gift to their parents by allowing us to enjoy the day with family. Their gift actually began the night before with a quiet sleep through their first restaurant experience. They slept right through dinner on Christmas Eve next to the dinner table in their car seats and never made a peep.

Updated (12/27 with more photos): Still in the process of adding all the photos taken between our camera, Peter's and my Mom's! But here is a start to the gallery.

Weighing in at this corner....

With a fighting weight over five pounds - Jake Spencer! Yes, the little man has crossed the "five pound bag of potatoes mark" as Colleen has put it.

He went in for his snip at the Pediatrician on Tuesday and has put on six ounces in four days. Both guys have been eating like they’ve never met a meal they didn’t like and have been putting on more than the ounce a day that the doctors want to see.

Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf

Hey, who are you?

I think Jake realized that he has a brother for the first time in this shot. He was very transfixed on Colin when we put them in the crib together last night. Not sure if Colin has come to the same realization yet!

Grandparents Scully On Duty

Peter arrived in town on Friday night and was promptly put to work.

Jake and the Fat Man

Baby Jail

Out In The World

Took the boys out for their first walk in the world yesterday. We seriously take pictures of everything that they do these days. I'm guessing that will stop after a while, but right now I can't keep my hand off the camera!

Jake Update

Got great news on Jake today. I went down for his 2:00 feeding today and found out his feeding tube that was running through his nose and directly to his stomach came out last night. We haven't had to use it for the last few days because he has moved to bottle and breast feeding, but they had kept it in just in case it didn't take. Other than the temperature and heart monitor that clip to his foot, he is wire free!

The best news is that he is out of the isolette and into a crib. As long as he can show to the nurses and doctors that he can maintain his temperature and continure to put on weight, we can begin to talk about coming home.

Scout supervises the diaper change

Week One

The first week is in the books and what a week it has been. I can't wait to tell the boys about how they broke their Mom's back when they were born. Something happened during the delivery that caused me to be unable to move at all without pain the first few days. I am slowly getting better but still cannot walk normally or lift anything. Kyle has had to step up and be Superman because I'm far from able to help with the physical demands right now. I'm also so grateful for our great family members who have helped out tremendously. The two Grandmas have had to do a lot more than coo and smile at the boys - they've been doing everything under the sun to help.

Colin came home with us on Friday afternoon. Jake is expected to come home this weekend if he continues to put on weight as quickly as he has so far. He is quite tough for such a little guy and keeps exceeding the doctor's expectations.

Scout has been great with Colin. He is contsantly looking at him and sleeping by his side. It is really cute. He is very curious and gentle. We can't wait to see what he does when another one shows up!

The Boys Have Arrived....

After 36 weeks, two days and 24 hours of labor, Colin Jackson and Jake Peter Spencer joined us on Tuesday night. Everybody is happy and healthy. Little Jake needs to put on a little more weight and won't be coming home right away, but should be able to come home fairly soon. Age is still at the hospital and I made a quick trip home to grab some things and post some photos...

There is also an Ofoto page if you want to buy any shots here.

Waiting...

I am finally making a post! Well, it is November 28th and the babies have not arrived yet. I have been having minor contractions, but no serious labor signs yet. I am now at 36 weeks, which is a big milestone because it is considered full term for twins. Now we're in bonus time, so we're anxious for them to arrive! We're grateful that they will not be premature or pre-term.

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning, so if there are any exciting updates I'll post again. The waiting game continues...

The Boys' Room

Let the games begin....

In this morning's visit, Dr. Lee has served notice. Age is now 1 cm dialated and effaced. Which to me, sounded like we're jumping in the car and it's time to get to the hospital! With a little help from the internets (couldn't resist a little W jab!), things are not as dire as I had thought. From "Ask a Nurse"...

Cervical dilation is the actually opening of the cervix. A women must get to ten centimeters to be completely dilated.

Effacement is the thinning of the cervix. Normally the cervix is about 2 inches long, so a cervix that is 70% effaced is less than 3/4 of an inch.

Effacement and dilation go together, not on over the other. However, just becaues she is dilating and effacing doesn't mean that labor will begin within the hour, or the day, or even the week. Nor does it mean that the woman who is not effaced or dilated will be pregnant for another week as some would have you believe. I've even had students walk around at five cetimeters for about 2 weeks.

So....could be tonight, could be tomorrow, could be anytime in the next two weeks!!!

Scout

I wanted to try out this new little photo gallery tool and since Mr. Scout will be moving to the back pages of this blog in just a few short weeks (or less!)....what better time to throw up a photo gallery. Once you click on the images to the left, you should be able to view as a slideshow. Hopefully this works....

The start of something....

This is the very first post in the world of blogging for us. We thought it would be a great way for everyone out there, close and far, to be able to keep up with the Spencer Three and soon to be Five.

Adrianne has been getting bigger as the months have gone by, as you can see by this photo gallery on Ofoto The belly is growing. Some might of you might have to create an account to view the gallery. Taking a photo of the growing belly and boys inside has been part of our Sunday night ritual and it's been fun (for me at least!) to watch the progression. As you can see from the photo on the left, Scout seems to take great joy in watching his mother's belly.

We are at the 34 week mark and can't wait to meet these two little guys. I think we are both just ready for this little adventure to start more than anything. Maybe Age a little more than me, since the real uncomfortable stage of pregnancy has certainly set in these last few weeks. Although we're a little nervous of what we've gotten ourselves into, I think the both of us feel we're ready for the challenge to start.

Hopefully this blog will get updated regularly and we are able to keep everyone updated on what's going on with the new additions to the family.

-Kyle
